Members of ABC TV's The Chaser team have been questioned after another APEC stunt, just hours after security officials warned their pranks could result in someone being shot.
Craig Reucassel, Chris Taylor and Dominic Knight today dressed up in black cardboard boxes shaped like limousines, complete with Canadian flags on the front and paper plates as wheels.
Their action was a send-up of Thursday's stunt, in which 11 Chaser members were charged after driving real vehicles - decked out to resemble a Canadian motorcade - through APEC security checkpoints. They're now facing up to six months jail.
They got within metres of US President George W Bush's Sydney hotel before being stopped.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione says it's a serious offence but could have been even worse.
“I’m angry, I’m very angry that this stunt happened,” he said.
“It was a dangerous stunt, nothing short of a very dangerous stunt.
“The reality is there were people - that through their actions yesterday - put security services in a position where they may have had to take an action that no one would want.”
Scipione denies his officers have been made fools of and says the checkpoints weren't supposed to be operating at their full capacity
“The security fence that they went through was not in full lockdown mode,” he said.
“It went into full lockdown mode today, we moved into APEC leaders week today. There was an operating public car park in that street. They went through that car park, but we had to let people in.”
The group have been charged under new APEC legislation.
Premier Morris Iemma says the new rules are there for a reason.
“The Chaser is not above the law,” he said.
“These laws were put in place for a very good reason.”
