Fat man saved by his own stomach in fall

16/10/2007 12:49:00 PM.  | Jesse Perez

Health experts continually remind us of the dangers of obesity, but there is one man who recently discovered the benefits, when he was saved by his own stomach after falling 20 ft from a ledge.

Gerhard Steiner, 27, was tucking into a sausage on his hotel balcony in Bayreuth when he suddenly lost balance and toppled over the edge.

Mr Steiner fell more than twenty feet before crashing on to the ground, his fall broken by his ample frame.

Most people, having sustained a heavy drop, would have perished. But amazingly Mr Steiner emerged with just a bruised rib, and doctors said his fat has saved him.

Off the wall says: So if someone has a go at you for having a bit too much on your plate, you can now quite confidently pronounce that you are simply "Growing natures airbag".
