Lismore city council has been thrown a lifeline from the NSW State Government and has been declared a natural disaster zone.
A tornado wreaked havoc across the far north coast region, destroying houses, a church and a school building.
The damage bill is up at around $1 million.
Residents and businesses will be eligible for assistance, including low interest loans and subsidies to clean up the mess.
