A young man has had teeth knocked out after being bashed on a street in Sydney's inner-west.
The 22-year-old was walking down Alt Street at Ashfield around 6.30 last night, when he was surrounded by three men.
They were armed with a metal pole and a knife - and demanded money.
A struggle broke out where the victim was struck repeatedly by the pole before the offenders fled.
Passers-by came to the man's aid - he's been taken to hospital with bruising and several missing teeth.
Police have established a crime scene - and say the three men they are looking for are of White-European appearance aged in their early 20s.
They fled empty-handed.
