A West Australian woman's in a critical condition in hospital after being savaged in a frenzied dog attack, where police shot one of the dogs dead.
The 29-year-old woman was attacked in Mandurah, south of Perth, yesterday afternoon about 5.30 (WDT) when she jumped a fence at her mother's house after hearing a puppy in distress next door.
Police say two big Bull Mastiffs attacked her, dragged her back into the yard as she tried to get back over the fence and began a frenzied attack.
The woman's mother sprayed the dogs with a hose in an attempt to keep them at bay as three police officers arrived.
Police tried to stun the dogs with Tasers, but when that didn't subdue them they were forced to shoot and kill one.
The second dog was shot by council rangers and a third was secured and removed from the yard by rangers.
The woman's being treated in Royal Perth Hospital for serious wounds to her face, legs and body and is in a critical but stable condition.
A police officer was bitten on the leg during the attack and has had a tetanus shot.
