Former Idol winner Casey Donovan will launch her EP on New Year’s Day to herald a new artistic direction.
The 19-year-old’s new work, called Eye 2 Eye, features four tracks: Shattered, Help Me, Did it Again and Eye 2 Eye.
Donovan, who co-wrote all the songs, says she drew inspiration from her parents divorce for the title track.
“Eye 2 Eye is one of my favourite songs from all the songs I’ve written, it’s about my parents’ divorce when I was very young, but you can take it in any context, it’s very dear to my heart,” Donovan told LIVENEWS.com.au.
“I wrote Help for a best mate whose father had passed away a couple of days before I was going into a writing session; that was my inspiration.”
Donovan has undergone a physical transformation in 2007, training under triathlete legend Guy Leech.
“I’m doing things I’d never thought I’d be able to do as a fat person,” says Donovan.
“I’ve started running again, I just got back from a session with Leechie were we did some hundred-metre intervals.”
When Donovan started with Leech it was dangerous for her to even walk uphill, with the effort driving her heart rate to 190 beats a minute.
Now she has to train really hard just to get her heart to 160 beats a minute and into the ‘fat burning’ zone, she says.
This year Donovan’s relationship with her long term boyfriend Dylan was also revealed.
“It’s funny, I’ve never tried to hide it, but the world’s cottoned on,” she says.
Though Donovan won’t divulge the mysterious Dylan’s last name, she told LIVENEWS.com.au he was a 21-year-old IT expert.
“We met before Idol when I was at TAFE with a mate and we exchanged numbers.
“He went travelling and came back and didn’t even know I’d won Idol.
“Next year I’ll be focusing on the market scene – music is my passion but I paint and I do other little arsty fartsy stuff.
“I’ll be going around markets selling paintings, and singing every hour probably at Rozelle, Balmain, and Glebe.
“I’ll also be releasing an album.”
