Australian troops abroad in high spirits

25/12/2007 2:20:00 PM.  | James Cregan
Australian troops serving overseas are in high spirits despite spending the Christmas New Year holidays away from their families.

Troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and in East Timor have recently been visited by new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

Lieutenant Colonel Charles Wheeler serving in Iraq has told 2GB’s Jason Morrison despite the country usually being an alcohol free zone, the rules will be relaxed for some diggers.

“The General has relaxed and relented and there is a beer ration for those people who are off duty.”

“It won’t be everybody.”
