A woman's body has been found on an exposed tidal reef in a national park close to Darwin city.

The body of a Caucasian female, believed to be aged between 40 and 60 years, was discovered about 9.30am (CST), police said.

She was described as slim with collar-length dark hair and wearing three-quarter-length cream trousers and an orange/pink patterned sleeveless top.

She may have been wearing black shoes but was barefoot when found, police said.
