Almost 30 eagles that survived a disastrous dive into a truck full of fish guts are close to recovery, officials at Alaska's Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge said.
Two birds have died, but most have perked up and may soon be released, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
About 50 birds mobbed an uncovered truck at Ocean Beauty Seafoods on Friday, and about 20 were killed in the crush.
The surviving birds exhausted themselves and were soaked and icy.
Workers from the seafood plant and the US Fish and Wildlife Service washed the birds in dishwashing soap to help remove the fish oil.
