Australia won't bow to Japan on whaling

9/02/2008 6:22:00 PM.  | James Cregan
The Federal Government is defending the release of graphic whaling images that have sparked a diplomatic row between Japan and Australia.

The Japanese government's preparing to lodge a complaint over the release of images showing harpooned whales being dragged onto a whaling ship.

Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Smith says they'll continue to release the images as long as Japan continues to whale in the Southern Ocean.

Well done the Rudd Government. Annoying the Japanese like this is a triumph in itself. The action by you has given the Japanese the biggest shake up in years.

This is yet another demonstration of how weak the Howard Government was. Sure the could pick on David Hicks or Dr Haneef or Vivienne Alverez, or defenceless refugees, but all they could do was bend over and drop em when it came to the big guys. Australia has come such a long way in such a short time, it's great to see.
