It seems the pair share a common link in Spears's father and Gibsons attourney Blare Berk, and speculation suggests that Berk brought them together.
Further reports suggest that Spears's troubled personal life caused concern for Gibson, who is involved with the highly conservative Church of the Holy Family in Malibu.
Last week Spears had her Jewish Kabbalah symbol tattoo removed, which could indicate she is looking for a new faith.
