Man sells life on eBay after marriage bust up

A British man has put his Australian life up for auction after his marriage busted up, and the package includes a house, a job and a few surfboards, but not the lady who sent him scurrying back to the mother country.

Ian Usher, 44, is offering his three-bedroom house in the Perth suburb of Wellard, his car and job on auction website eBay after his five-year marriage to wife Laura ended last year.

Usher said his life in Australia had been "absolutely fantastic" and all his possessions reminded him of the "wonderful" past he shared with his wife.

But the auction was the quickest and least emotionally draining way to make a fresh start.

"I am selling everything lock, stock and barrel, from the contents of my wardrobe to my kettle, and from my cutlery to my car," Usher told The Northern Echo, a local newspaper near his former home in north-east England.

"My aim is to walk away at the end of the eBay auction with my wallet in one pocket and my passport in the other, go to the airport and just jump on the first available plane to anywhere."

Bids will start at just one Australian dollar, but Usher is hoping to pocket about $500,000 from the sale of his "life package".

Usher, who is originally from Darlington in north-east England and emigrated from nearby Scarborough six years ago, became an Australian citizen in 2006.

He is also selling his motorbike, jet-ski, surfboards, sky-diving kit, spa and giant TV screen.

"My tale is a bit of a sad one, but I am not trying to sell anyone a sob story," he said.

"This is just my way of dealing with what has happened to me."

Usher's employer at a Perth rug store, Jenny Jones, has agreed to take whoever buys his "life" on a two-week trial, with a view to a permanent job.

Bidding opens on June 22 and lasts for a week.
