Brawling crowd turns on police

19/03/2008 6:21:00 AM.  | Laura Tunstall
Police attending two rock-throwing attacks on buses in Sydney's southwest have themselves been set upon.

Bus drivers at Rosemeadow reported the two incidents to police - rocks thrown at their vehicles in separate attacks late yesterday.

Officers then received reports of a brawl on Macbeth Way involving up to 30 people but when they arrived they found the crowd calm and left.

Around 10 o'clock the situation escalated - the group turning on police.

Officers had a number of projectiles thrown at them but weren't injured.

The riot squad was placed on standby and extra police brought in.

The situation has calmed overnight - police say they're now focusing on who threw the objects at them and the bus drivers.
