Remember those worse off this easter: George Pell

22/03/2008 8:00:00 AM.  | Rachael Stevens
We're being reminded to take some time out this Easter to remember and support those who are worse off than ourselves.

Australians have been hit hard already this year by the ongoing drought, climbing interest rates and sky-rocketing petrol prices.

In his annual Easter message Cardinal George Pell says there's good and bad news ahead.

“The drought isn’t over throughout all NSW, although Sydney’s done well.”

“The southern Australian states badly need rain.”

“Our economy continues to be strong, but interest rates appear to be increasing mortgage pressures – the poor continue to be squeezed and the USA economy is in convulsions.”

Cardinal Pell is a leader. His Easter message is a valuable message that the Anglicans can learn from. I was very disappointed with the divisive and political easter message of jensen this year. Easter is not about Jensen's politics, it is about the sacrifice God made for all, which Christians have accepted into their hearts. I am nominally Anglican, and very disappointed. Thank you Cardinal Pell, for that message this Easter.

Name one good thing PELL has done since he was dragged to Sydney from Victoria, can I suggest not a thing except frown down at people who don't meet his standards..Pell why not go to the vatican and be with the other Gay men who serve the fill in pope..Go and get a real job with real people and leave all that garb back in the parish.

Mr Maybury, I think James Stack was referring to the common curtesy of respect. Like him or loathe him, Pell is a religious leader preaching peace at a holy time within his religious calander. Its just not an appropriate time to criticise the man. BTW - I am NOT Christian, I don't believe in Easter or anything it represents, but i respect its place on the Christian calender.
