Australian confesses to shooting US man

An Australian man has confessed to the violent shooting-murder of a tourist in Thailand.

William Douglas was seen drinking with the American man for several hours at the restaurant in tourist filled Chiang Mai.

But after a few rounds, an argument broke out, and the 60-year-old from Perth pulled out a gun and fired three bullets into the victim's head and body.

Douglas is a long-term resident of Thailand. He fled the scene, but turned himself into police soon after.

He is understand to have confessed to the killing and is now on suicide watch in prison.

Australian consular officials are providing assistance while Foreign Affairs is dealing with his family.

There are two reasons why anyone would choose to live in Thailand, both are because of tourism. I wouldn't be frequenting their bars.
