Seven docks cancer charity $130,000

3/04/2008 11:17:00 AM.  | LIVENEWS.com.au
The Seven Network has demanded a cancer charity pay it $130,000 for the costs of a reporter from breakfast program Sunrise covering a celebrity fundraising walk in China.

Olivia Newton-John will lead a group of international celebrities on a 21-day trek of the Olympic nation in order to raise money for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre Appeal.

Sunrise was set to report on the event but has pulled out after Seven’s demand for the charity to cover its expenses was rejected, according to The Australian.

Seven’s sales director James Warburton claimed the charity had promised to find a sponsor to pay the costs for the Sunrise coverage, but had failed to do so.

Sunrise reporter Monique Wright, who has lost a grandmother and two aunts to cancer, had been signed up to join the walk but has since withdrawn, with her publicist saying “her schedule did not allow it”.

Typical 7 network! They've been arrogant and too big for thier boots for a long time now. How can they expect a charity to pay them thousands of dollars to cover an event?!That's obscene!Actually covering such an event would have been a big coup for them and a great ratings win - yet they want mega bucks aswell?? Talk about wanting your cake and eating it too!Unbelievable greed! If the 9 network gets wind of this they should jump at the opportunity to cover the story for free!

How pathetic that a big rich network would expect a CHARITY to pay their expenses! I'd bet they would PAY the likes of Britney Spears or the like to GET a big story, but instead as for a hand-out? Shame on them!

Hang on; isn't it supposed to be the Networks donating money to charities, not Charities donating money to the Networks? This must be to cover their last fraud scheme. The trouble with 7 is there is no depth from the management down. Apart from V8 Supercars, there is nothing worth watching on 7.
