NSW Ambulances fitted with SatNav equipment

Ambulance drivers will no longer have to read paper maps to get to an emergency.

The NSW Government has announced a $1.2million funding upgrade to fit every ambulance vehicle with Satellite Navigation Units.

Health Minister Reba Meagher says it's a great resource.

“They can get to vital lifesaving jobs without the distraction of relying on street directories.”

“This will mean that we’re taking pressure off our Ambulance paramedics and assisting them in the field to respond quicker.”

Ambulance Officer Sam Cohu says it makes his life much easier.

“We’ve had motorcycles up in the train disasters, up in the mountains, and when you go out into those sorts of areas you really don’t know where you are going.”

“To be able to stop and look at the map, again, you have to relate that map to the ground, and that in itself can be quite difficult – particularly if you’ve only got one person.”
