Channel Two has scored a swag of Gold Logie nominations for 2008 while the once dominant Nine Network will have to do with just one.
Enough Rope’s Andrew Denton, Summer Height’s High creator Chris Lilley and Adam Hills host of Spicks and Specks have all copped nods for the prestigious category.
Following on behind is Ten with two nominations for Rove McManus and Neighbours star Natalie Blair, Seven, represented by Kate Ritchie and All Saints’ John Howard and Nine left with only Sea Patrol’s Lisa McCune.
But while the ABC may have swept the Gold Logie nominations bookies don’t necessarily see them translating into a statuette.
Online bookmakers Lasseters Sportsbook are tipping Kate Ritchie to take out the category paying $1.40 to Lisa McCune’s $5.00 and Rove McManus’ $6.00. The ABC stable are far behind with Lilley on $13.00, and Denton and Hills on $21.00.
Ritchie, who just finished her role as Sally Fletcher on Channel 7's Home and Away after 20 years, won the Gold Logie last year.
McCune, who returned to the small screen last year with a starring role in Nine's ratings winner Sea Patrol, won the Gold four times in the late 1990s, while Channel 10s' Rove has also snared the big prize three times.
The awards are said to favour the commercial networks as the public voting system favours younger audiences.
Fans can vote for this year's Logie awards by texting as well as on the website and there has been a 175 per cent increase in voting according to TV Week editor Emma Nolan who run the Logies.
"Australian television has never been hotter,'' she told News Limited.
"Last year saw the launch of many quality dramas, while the ratings success of comedy and factual reality shows was huge.
"Voting went through the roof this year because people are excited about TV, and the list of Gold nominees is the best and most diverse I've ever seen.”
Bindi Irwin has scored herself a nomination in the Most Popular New Female Talent category, against Charlotte Best from Home and Away, Tammy Clarkson from SBS's The Circuit, Adelaide Kane from Neighbours and Zoe Ventoura from SBS's Kick.
In the new category of Most Popular Factual Program, Ten's Bondi Rescue is up against Seven's Border Security and RSPCA Animal Rescue, Nine's RPA and ABC1's Choir of Hard Knocks.
The announcement for the 50th Logie awards were at a breakfast at Sydney's Luna Park this morning.
The winners will be announced at Melbourne's Crown Casino on Sunday, May 4.
Meanwhile, it's been revealed that there will be no single host of the ceremony again this year.
"In celebration of 50 years of the Logies, we've decided to highlight the outstanding talent we have in this country by featuring many of the industry's finest to present the awards on this landmark event," executive producer Pam Barnes said.
US band The Last Goodnight will perform their hit Pictures Of You at the ceremony.
Comic radio and TV duo Hamish Blake and Andy Lee return as hosts of the Green Room, interviewing stars, and Livinia Nixon, Shelly Craft and Jules Lund will host the red carpet arrivals.
