Parents could be sent to counseling with their children as part of a new scheme to drive down binge drinking.
New figures reveal almost 1700 teenagers and children had to be treated in hospitals for alcohol abuse in the past year, but medical officials claim it's just the tip of the iceberg.
The breakdown of statistics shows around 1500 teenagers aged between 15 and 19 required help, while more than 150 children aged less than 14 also illegally drank to excess.
Under a new plan parents will be forced to attend counseling with their child or risk being fined up to 500 dollars.
The NSW Government will also launch a new campaign aged to shame binge drinkers, following the success of the speeding campaign where onlookers wiggle their pinkie.
