Environment Minister Peter Garrett will meet his New Zealand counterpart today, to coordinate a strategy to stop Japanese whaling in the Southern Ocean.
The Dominion Post newspaper reports they'll discuss plans for one big hit against Japan's so-called scientific whaling program.
The ministers hope to use the International Whaling Commission's annual conference in June, to pressure Japan to stop its controversial whale hunt.
Mr Garrett says the the organisation should protect whales not only from hunters, but also from things climate change, pollution, collisions with ships, habitat disturbance and fisheries activities.
