In special free daily performances at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt, Melbourne based Strange Fruit will be gracing our skies in an enchanting 20 minute show.
Perched atop 5 metre high flexible poles which bend and sway in the air, four daredevils tell an epic story of love, loss, joy and freedom.
The areal artists will enact an intriguing ritual of courtship, discovery and broken hearts.
Their extreme strength and flexibility allows performers to bow to impossible angles, swaying back and forth with a hypnotic beauty that is truly remarkable.
“It's quite a joyful experience...It's quite exhilarating at times,” said Ben, one of the four Strange Fruit performers.
Katherine, a second performer said the feeling is amazing.
“It’s beautiful and it feels wonderful as well.”
“Strange Fruit is completely unique…We’ve all come to the company with different skills,” she said.
The timeless romantic story of boy meets girl will be retold as a comic aerial spectacle three times daily from April 16-26 at 11:30am, 12:30pm and 7pm (excluding Mondays and Tuesdays).
The show is open to the general public and will be enjoyed by throngs of people from various ages, languages and cultural backgrounds – the performance is said to reaffirm a sense of common humanity.
