Nelson uses Anzac morning tea to warn against Muslim extremists

18/04/2008 12:18:00 PM.  | Rowan Barker
Opposition leader Brendan Nelson has used a pre-Anzac Day morning tea to warn against the threat posed by Muslim extremists.

The former Defence Minister has addressed about 40 returned service personnel at Parramatta RSL Club, saying national security is one of the five main challenges facing Australia.

Dr Nelson says an attack on home soil remains a real possibility from people who oppose the values most Australians hold dear.

“Universal human ideals of respect for other human beings, respect for women, respect for religious freedom, respect for political freedom and choice all of those things are under threat from people that have evil intentions and think nothing of taking innocent life,” he said.

Nelson should be warning against ALL extremists not just muslims. The fanatical Christians are just as much a problem as fanatical political left and right wingers. Australia IS a moderate country. Let's keep it that way.

Nelson is certainly correct in warning extremist religios groups about carrying out foolish activities on Australian soil. Pity he did'nt include a warning about those misguided Labor voters who put Iemma and his shonkies back to wreck the state. Something like a Mugabe type recount would have been nice.

Old habits die hard. This man should be ashamed of himself peddling racial intolerance under guise of 'national security'. I wouldn't be surprised if he was also peddling leaflets from the Lindsay affair. The real terrorists are hiding within the Liberal party and within the Hill song and brethren church. But then again Dr. Nelson admitted once before that the genocide in Iraq was about the Oil.

Get real people! At least Brendan Nelson has the guts to say what the majority of Australian's think. Can someone please give me an example of how 'fanatical christians' are as much a problem as muslim extremism? Sorry fellas, they just aren't. And to call the Christians involved in Hillsong, or members of the Liberal Party as the 'real terrorists' is just plain dumb. We as a nation need to take responsibility for what will and what is happening in our own backyard. Islam is a real threat...
