The thousand delegates ranging from actors Hugh Jackman and Cate Blanchett, businessman Lachlan Murdoch and the Australian Sex Workers Association are meeting to try to come up with a series of ideas.
Issues such as climate change, which has been raised continually, by a variety of speakers in different subject areas, as noted by Climate Change Minister Penny Wong.
“Its impact will be felt across all aspects of our lives.”
Its impact has also been a theme in Treasurer Wayne Swan’s address, who also stated Australia’s aging population needed to be addressed.
On Indigenous Rights – the question of a treaty has also been floated.
A humorous closing to day one of the Summit was styled by the comedic efforts of actors Rhys Muldoon and Hugh Jackman who brought down the Houses of Parliament.
Hosting the "Plenary Session 2", the pair interviewed representatives from each stream and random delegates from the audience.
The pair poked fun at the Governor-General's earlier contribution involving an 80,000 year old ice column telling the story of global warming, saying the ice had been later used as a cooling agents in the drinks of the delegates.
"I just want to share with you Hugh, and the rest of the room, that this ice... is 8 minutes old," said Rhys Muldoon.
Hugh Jackman said the ice went back into the 'creative stream'.
"Many people have asked what happened to the ice column - it did actually go back into the creative stream for us to use...we found it very inspiring."
The 2020 Summit wraps up tomorrow.
