For eight years, an Aussie digger has stood alone on Sydney's Anzac Bridge. On Sunday he will be joined by a New Zealand soldier.
Several lanes on Sydney’s ANZAC Bridge are closed - as the statue of a New Zealand soldier is erected.
It will stand opposite the statue of an Australian soldier, solidifying an enduring relationship between the neighbouring countries and will have some sand from Gallipoli placed at its feet.
"It's about time they did something like this," returned New Zealand serviceman Lindsay Taylor said.
"They have had an Aussie on the bridge for a long time and now we will put some class onto it."
"The unveiling of the statue on Sunday further evidence the passing years have done nothing to weaken the ANZAC bond."
The Bridge will completely close for five hours on Sunday morning while a special dedication ceremony takes place.
