Fatal shark attack at popular Californian beach

26/04/2008 10:03:00 AM.  | Victoria Owens

A swim at one of California’s most popular beaches has ended in tragedy for a man who's been killed in a shark attack.

The 66-year-old was training for a triathlon in the ocean near San Diego when he was attacked by the shark.

Dr Richard Rosenblatt from the Californian Institute of Oceanography says the size of the bite suggests it came from a Great White.

“Typical Great White Shark behaviour to attack from below, make a bite, and then draw away.”
