Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore has unloaded on the Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal George Pell, suggesting that Jesus would not approve of him.

Ms Moore, a Roman-Catholic herself, lashed out at the conservative religious leader in an interview with gay news site, SX News.

When asked about Cardinal Pell’s attitude towards gay people the Lord Mayor didn't pull her punches.

“Christ was a radical. He despised the Establishment and the Pharisees. He threw the money-changers out of the temple,” she said.

“I liken certain church officials today to the Pharisees that Christ took exception to.”

Many people are apalled by the truth and Gospel values that Cardinal Pell proclaims and teaches. He is a reproach to many many consciences and His words fall like fire on their heads. He speaks on behalf of the Church and not Himself. It is a real pity to realise that such a great man is not understood nor appreciated. Cardinal Pell is one of the brightest minds and a pride to our Nation Australia. Does Ms Moore really think that Jesus approves of her lashing out at His Eminence??

Dear Ms Moore You should think before you speak! You sound to some like a Philistine who is spouting terminological inexactitudes his Eminence is the messenger who is clearly articulating the teachings of the one true faith , the one true church are you just trying to woo votes well it seems that way. at least the Cardinal has principle he resolutely sticks to his message and doesnt waver nor pander to anyone! its you that kowtows to some establishment so take a long hard look at your self

Clover thanks for speaking on behalf of most Australians, Pell is the most unhappy of all the cloth people I have seen, all he is interested in is being the next pope. Who is desperate enough to believe in this crap that comes from Pell and the Pope, certainly nobody I know

I have studied the bible. Clover has it wrong. She might notice a passage in Luke ch12 and 13 where Jesus tells the disciples he came to divide, to set brother against brother etc. Jesus had strong views. I have long noticed that Cardinal Pell is 'on message.' He is a remarkable man, faithful and blessed. Clover has her fair share of blessings too. It is so sad she has abused them as she has.

Regardless of Clover's opinions, political stance,it is a well known fact that Pell covered up child abuse within the church. This was big news several years ago and of course he still holds a powerful postion in the community.Suffer the children. If i was to see this "man" in person i would be ill.

Des, the media (for some inexplicable reason!!) are reluctant to re-vist or analyse Goss's then Cheif Of Staff - Mr Rudd's involvement in the shredding of the Heiner documents. Do you (or Live News know why?). Maybe Tim B could take this up in an attempt to restore his journalistic credentials, or Alan Jones (agan)

John Colins ask Rudd (then chief of staff in the Goss Government) about the shredding of the Heiner documents-he was involved with the Goss Government that did that. It was about child abuse and now Rudd is PM. Is that OK?

Clover Moore is just like the Green is another so called Independent and thinks she's godlike- seriously can you actually believe this woman in anything she does - hypocrites who don't do their jobs and who live on the public purse should not throw stones-they all live in glass houses yet are able to dish out crap - she would be best serving the public because that's what's she's paid to do - her self-righteousness is enough to make you vomit!! \

Cardinal Pell is a glorified politician who can’t stand doing enough homework to become a real scientist to protect the lives of the born and unborn. He is too greedy to see the image of Christ or the Virgin Mary in his morning toast but can see god in Rupert Murdoch.

Clover would say anything to gain votes that keep her in a very highly paid job. Good on her, afterall, she's just another greedy, hollow politician.

If Lord Mayor Clover really believes in this then she should denouce her faith becuase its not just Cardinal George Pell who is apart of the Catholic Church. What is it with these people and minorities.

What a pompous woman-how would she know what Jesus would have approved of and what he would not have. Jesus was not a radical and that’s our problem -he was a fundamentalist and we are the radicals trying to interpret his teachings to try and suit our own particular philosophies.
