Police hunt for dog killers after woman's terrifying ordeal

LATEST FEATURES

The owner of a dog, deliberately run over in Sydney’s west, has described how the men responsible laughed as she screamed for help.

Jennifer Patten's pet Chihuahua, Vinnie, is dead after the brutal attack on Grex Avenue at Minchinbury last night.

She's told 2GB’s Ray Hadley three men in a red hatchback kept on coming back for more.

“They ran over my shitzu first – he flattened himself out on the ground because he was so petrified – and the car just passed over the top of him,” she recounted.

“And then my little Chihuahua-cross, who’s like 1.5 kilos and wouldn’t hurt a fly… I was screaming for my dogs to come to me and he started to run towards me and they lined him up and ran him over.”

9:00 AM

A Sydney woman who lives with her three dogs, has watched on helplessly as one of her pets was deliberately run down and killed.

The one-armed 32-year-old was walking her dogs along Grex Avenue just before 11 last night, when three males in a red hatchback mounted the kerb and chased her dogs.

Chief Inspector Mark Cook from Mount Druitt police, says the offenders appeared to make every effort to claim the dogs life.

“The vehicle apparently did a number of u-turns and swerves whilst pursuing the dogs and one of the dogs – a one-year-old Pomeranian-cross-Chihuahua - was running back to its owner when it was run over and killed by the hatchback,” he told LIVENEWS.com.au.

The car narrowly missed the woman before speeding away.

The occupants of the car are described as young men wearing baseball caps.

This disgusts and upsets me that those boys could be so thoughtless and callous. I hope someone someday takes away something they love and they may know how it feels. There is no punishment harsh enough for these people, I use that term loosely. My heart goes out to the lady who has suffered this cruelty, I only hope the they are caught and identified in public.

This is such a low act.... If these bastards are found guilty it should be to attempted manslaughter, at least this would give them enough time to reflect what society thinks of such disregard for our laws.

It scares the you-know-what out of me to think that I have people like this roaming free in my area. I cannot get my head around how anyone could get enjoyment out of harming another person, animal or property, just for the hell of it. I hope (but I have my doubts it will happen) that severe punsihment awaits these low-lifes. Many of our friends have left Sydney, this is one step closer for us. One day we too will leave Sydney, and watch from afar as this once-fine town goes to hell.

I cried when i read this story - my heart goes out to the owner of the dogs. Sick bastards they should be publically named when found no matter what age they are - their faces should be put on the front of the newspapers so everyone will know who these sick bastards are. Public flogging would be to good for them.

These idiots cannot be classed as humans..they are worse than the wildest of animals (and they only kill to feed themselves). If they are caught..jail for 10 years, crush their cars and sell ALL of their belongings!!that's the least they deserve.Probably far too many vile video games have made them immune to feelings of any sort, except their own warped sense of fun.Let the Government or RSPCA offer a reward for handing them in.

I am sickened and disgusted by such a disgusting cruel act. These things are not human nor can we refer to them as animals, that would be a pure insult. How many more acts of cruelty to defenseless animals have to occur before our judicial system take these matters to another level and deal with these pathetic things the way they should be dealt with lock them up and throw away the key. My heart goes out Jennifer who had to witness her little dog die in such a horrible way.

What is even more distressing is that this trio, should they be located, cannot be fined for much, beyond animal cruelty. They might step forward, and further taunt the owner in court.

My families heart goes out to Jenny and her little dog Vinnie and also the other dogs who had to witness this evil act of behaviour. This trash should be strapped to a pole and let the public throw stones at them ! They just wan't to hope I don't find out who they are !!!

My hearty goes out to this woman, from another lover of dogs, especially small dogs. This evil shows how decrepit people can go! This is a thrill killing of an innocent animal. How low can anyone go? Let's hope these criminals are found and they are charged heavily for their crime! The poor woman must be distraught, as I would be. Big cars, high speed, killings - it is all showing that they are really feeling inadequacy in some physical and psycholigical areas!

I do not usually allow my emotions to guide my thoughts to this extent, but these men are the epitome of the violence that resides within human nature. I would have personally smacked the brains out of each one of them, people like that do not deserve to exist. Hearing of things like this makes me feel repulsed and ashamed of being human. These men set out with the intent to pander to their own vile souls, which obviously possess no beauty in the first place.

People like that have no respect hurting a poor little thing like that. The people that did that should be locked away for ever. I know how it feels having a dog ran over cause when i was about 6yrs old i had a little toy poodle that got hit by a car and i wittnessed it. My heart goes out to Jennifer and i feel bad for what has happened. It is so hard to read this article with out crying. I always say its better to have than not to have but the way that Vinnie went was not the right way to go.

I know this has cut her to the core. She has had so much grief to deal with in her life and I know her animals are her life. These thugs would have been smarter to run her over rather than attack her dogs. I know that Jenny would have done anything to save her dogs and would not have given any concern for her safety in this situation. She has a special affinity to animals and any animal that has her enter their life is better for it. My heart goes otu to her from NZ

If one was to speculate as to the state of mind of these "Whatevers" who partook in this unimaginable act .You would have to consider they must of been off their heads on ICE ( high grade amphetimine) Not an excuse but how could anybody execpt a psychopath do this sort of thing to a lady walking her dogs. If and when they catch these guys, defence will proffer a tale of low socio ecconomic background ,low IQ and remorse after the fact. Wish I could wear the wig and wield the gabble on this one.

I am so angry and upset thinking about the terror that Jennifer and her poor little dogs experienced. It must have been the worst feeling to be so helpless and to be unable to save her beloved pets. Why cant the laws be changed so that the scum who commit atrocities on animals are punished as though those helpless animals were people. Has anyone thought of suggesting hypnosis in the hope that Jenny may remember the number plate. I hope those lowlife are caught and severely punished.

to the oxygen thieves ( yes you would probably be getting off reading these comments about the grief you`ve caused)...be warned..excrement like you may think that you have gotten away with this low act of deliberately running down a small defenceless little dog...BUT..somewhere, someone out there knows who you are... and it wont be a matter of IF you are caught but WHEN..my heart goes out to you Jenny and your dear little Vinnie.

While this is a particularly horrible case of cruelty to animals, there are cases to be made for prosecution of the men for the attempted murder of Jennifer Patten, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving without due care and attention, and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident. These men are scum, and scum tend to associate with other scum. Someone, somewhere, knows who they are. The local branch of the RSPCA should collect for a bounty for information leading to a successful prosecution. I'd donate to that.
