A sentencing hearing for disgraced former NSW government minister Milton Orkopoulos will be held in a Newcastle court today.
Orkopoulos, 50, was convicted in March of 28 child sex and drugs charges, dating back to 1995.
A jury took just over a day to find the former Aboriginal affairs minister guilty of plying three teenage boys with drugs in exchange for sexual favours in the decade to 2006.
One victim told the court he got him hooked on heroin then demanded sexual favours in return for his drug debt.
Orkopoulos had pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child pornography and one count of supplying cannabis at the outset of his month-long trial in the Newcastle District Court.
He faces a maximum 14 years in prison for the most serious of the 30 charges, sexual intercourse without consent.
Sentencing submissions will begin in Newcastle District Court this morning.
