Genetic tests to uncover future elite athlete children

10/05/2008 7:30:00 AM.  | Victoria Owens
Hundreds of parents are turning to genetic testing to check if their child could be an elite athlete.

A Melbourne research company is behind the new technology that's fast becoming popular in sports loving families.

The genetic kit can test the type of muscle twitching genes a child has, which can determine if a child possesses the makings of a professional sportsman.

Now what we need is a disposable clinic for kids who don't measure up.Actually one for their parents as well, we can't have these below average cretins breeding, can we?

I suspect good training means a lot too. And a good attitude. In fact, i think this is not such a big call as it seems. We have had such genetic tests for a long time, we call it organized sport. It is crude, but effective, over the long term. Some sportsmen who are not gifted, like myself, have maintained healthier lives by participating in those experiments.
