There are fears thousands of children in cyclone ravaged Burma are being left to suffer as the government maintains its restriction on outside aid.
Since Friday the Burmese military regime has impounded four United Nations aircraft containing food and medical supplies.
UNICEF’s Michael Boseerkew says the ban will hit children the hardest.
“Our focus is really on children,” he said.
“They make up about one-third of the population of Myanmar [Burma] and they’re the most severely affected in a crisis like this.”
Meanwhile, Australia is boosting its aid to the cyclone-ravaged country.
But Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner says first they have to make sure the aid can get through to those who desperately need it.
He's told the Ten Network the three million dollars promised last week is just a downpayment and it will be substantially increased shortly.
About 100,000 people are feared to have been killed by cyclone Nargis and at least 1.5 million people have been left homeless.
