12/05/2008 9:46:00 AM.  |
A man has tried to smuggle cocaine into Australia in bottles of alcohol, police say.

Customs officers at Sydney International Airport stopped the man for a baggage examination after he arrived on a flight from Tahiti on Saturday, federal police said.

During the search, officers became suspicious of the contents of a bottle of Irish cream and a bottle of fruit cream.

A trace particle detection test indicated the possible presence of cocaine.

A Customs detector dog also reacted positively to the two bottles.

The man was referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), whose preliminary tests of the substance also indicated the presence of cocaine.

A 35-year-old man West Australian man has been charged with importing a marketable quantity of a border controlled drug.

He is due to appear in Sydney's Central Local Court on Monday.
