A Sydney teenager is on remand after appearing in court charged over the sexual assault of an elderly woman.
It’s alleged the 18-year-old attacked the 82-year-old woman at a park near Anzac Avenue, west Ryde yesterday morning.
The victim was walking through the park when she was knocked to the ground and sexually assaulted.
Screams were heard and police were called - the teen faces four charges including intent to have sexual intercourse.
Chief Inspector Robert Vellar from Gladesville police says officers are shocked by the details of the crime.
“Look, it’s distressing for everyone,” he told LIVENEWS.com.au.
“When facts like this arise everyone is in disbelief, firstly.”
He appeared briefly in court, dressed in prison greens with his head kept bowed.
He hasn’t entered a plea and remains in custody to appear next month.
