Channeling Inspector Gadget, with a jet pack and wings strapped to his back, a Swiss ‘Rocket Man’ has set new records, soaring through the sky at 300km/h.
Former military pilot and adrenalin junkie, Yves Rossy has been perfecting his flying skills since becoming the world’s first man to fly with wings and four jet engines strapped to his body in November 2006.
Dubbing himself Fusion Man, Rossy was dropped from a plane at 2,438 metres over the Swiss Alps, and spread his wings to show off to world press in his first public flying display.
The 48-year-old Airbus pilot’s home-made flying machine has been seen by many on YouTube, with figure eights and smoke effects wowing internet audiences.
Wednesday’s five minute display lived up to his showman reputation, as journalists witnessed Rossy executing 360 degree rolls.
He later admitted he enjoys a bit of showing off and does it with the greatest of ease.
"That was to impress the girls," he told reporters.
"It's like a second skin…if I turn to the left, I fly left. If I nudge to the right, I go right."
The daredevil now has his sights set on soaring across the English Channel.
