Haddin takes five ahead of Test debut

17/05/2008 4:08:00 PM.  | AAP
For a wicket-keeper poised to make his Test debut in less than a week, Brad Haddin could hardly have asked for a better day.

Five dismissals, including two stumpings, in a near faultless performance behind the stumps made for an impressive first-up performance for the 30-year-old as Australia's No.1 keeper against a Jamaica XI.

For Haddin, though, more important than the dismissals was how the ball was hitting the gloves after a two-month gap since his last match.

"It's always good to get some dismissals, but in all honesty in these sorts of games leading into the Test series, you're more worried about your own rhythm and getting your game into order," he said.

Haddin will officially take over from the retired Adam Gilchrist - and become Australia's 400th Test cricketer - in the first Test against the West Indies starting Thursday.

"Chances sometimes aren't really a true indication of how the ball is going into the gloves," he said.

"But today it felt like my rhythm was okay. We've got a second innings and a few more days before the first Test and with a bit of luck, I'll be alright by Thursday."
