Melbourne has overtaken Sydney as the nation's leading tourist destination.

March statistics from Tourism Australia revealed Melbourne earned more from domestic travel spending than Sydney for only the second time in history.

The Victorian government increased spending on marketing the state - it's total now at almost $80 million compared with $55.9 million dollars spent in NSW.

If the ALP remain in government there much longer, it will become the same as Sydney. People prefer Melbourne to Sydney because it is comfortable, with good transport and things to do and see. Great cafe culture and night life. People come to Sydney to visit their relatives who can't afford to travel.
