Gabriella Cilmi tops ARIA charts

Move over Operator Please there’s another singing sensation just out of nappies on the block, and she ain’t taking no prisoners.

Gabriella Cilmi’s single Sweet About Me is back in the No. 1 spot on the ARIA charts after first hitting No. 1 in only its second week of release – a feat which made the 16 year old the youngest ever solo artist to achieve the top spot in ARIA history.

And it’s not just a case of Aussies supporting a young kid from Dandenong in Victoria, the Poms are raving about her as well – her debut album Lessons To Be Learned is currently No. 8 on the UK charts.

It’s clear the talented schoolkid is excited about her new album after three years hard work recording the work across three continents.

“This is just mind blowing! Thanks to everyone who bought my record – can’t wait to see you guys for a live show!” she gushed in a recent statement.

And while some may be shocked at her success, none will be more so than the school-teachers who knocked her back for roles in school musicals or who told her she lacked the discipline to pursue a career in music.
