Part of Redfern Railway Station has been cordoned off, after the discovery of what's thought to be the weapon used in an overnight murder.

Riot squad police searching Redfern train station have located the weapon, sealed off the area and called in forensic officers.

It’s believed the killer of the 23-year-old Aboriginal man discarded it there some time after midnight, after stabbing him in the chest during an altercation.

Police are still questioning four witnesses to the attack, who were taken away during a raid on a Terrace at Vine St this morning. [See accompanying video]

Detectives are believed to be closing in on the suspect in the case, thanks to new leads provided by members of the public this morning.

7:30 AM

Police have raided a house in the Block at Redfern after a fatal stabbing.

Vine Street at Redfern is filled with police, with around 20 detectives, uniformed officers and a riot squad.

A house has been raided on the corner of Lewis Street as police investigate the murder of a 23-year-old man who was found stabbed overnight.

Police have led a number of men away for questioning, they’ve also widened the crime scene forcing media back to the end of the street.

Detectives have brought one man out of the raided terrace and searched him on the street.

Police dogs can be heard barking inside.

The murdered man is understood to be from the North Coast, and was with friends when he was attacked.

The man was found lying on the road at around midnight last night with a stab wound to his chest.

He died on arrival at RPA Hospital.

I suppose racists and bigots like bolton want to blame this too on Labor in some illogical and nonsensical way. Dont hide from me you coward. I saw your comment on immigrants and their support for the Labor party and let me just tell you this - the reason why us migrants vote Labor is cause of racists and cowards like you.

If they don't I will - the NSW Labor govt is corrupt to the core and allow for bludgers and the reason as to why you will only have those types voting for them - if you want that same oppressive lifestyle stay in your own country and don't bring your socialist activities and ideals here-SO WHO'S THE COWARD?-if you don't like democracy why did you come here? Yes the cowards that illegally enter this country vote for LABOR!You are only a pathetic sympathiser! No bigotry, no rasism just the truth!

Dan, "cowards that illegally enter Australia vote for LABOR"............interesting. How does someone who ILLEGALLY enter Australia vote? Im sure you have some wild and wonderful theory on that one. Dan, maybe you should think before typing hey, then we all won't have to laugh at you. Your comments are of a racist and biggot nature. Someone who has their head stuck in the sand and probably doesnt even venture out of their own suburb very often into the real world. Nice one Dan.

David: they eventually become citizens don't they? illegal mean through the back door instead of waiting your turn to come here!morelike criminals (I was trying to soften it for the likes of you)! to call someone a bigot and racist is showing your own colours - do gooders such as you have your head stuck in the sand and by the way what's your knowledge on travel??? and seeing the big open world??

Dan, I will take an intelligent perspective on it all and you make your judgement. Someone gets murdered in Redfern overnight. Abdi Khan made a comment on immigrants (why, I do not know?). You replied with ranting and raving about his comment that had absolutely nothing to do with this murder. The way I see it, is that you saw an opening to vent some deep frustrations about immigrants. How the Labor Party can be blamed for a murder in Redfern is a view of great laughter to me.

David: If AK made a statement of irrelevance that is the reason why he was given a response because of the derogatory information contained - I understand exactly what migrants have put up with in this country in the 50's and assimilated without being troublemakers there is a difference David-a murder that happened is part of the injustice that happens in NSW and things need to change-I vent my disgust at how someone can call anyone a coward and produce no factual information to substantiate it!

Dan Concerned - how else are you b*ggers are doing to get culture ? You eat Chinese, Indian food, wear Italian clothes and what not and expect us to leave our culture behind ? What else do you have to offer? Its not racism but the truth! ;)

Joe Citizen: Did I say to leave the culture behind-I sugguest you find out how to read and comprehend first before you attack someone-socialist/communist ideology we don't want here-why did you leave? there is a difference between the right way of coming here and the wrong way-all migrants are welcome who work and contribute just as long as they abide by the laws in this country and don't change it-so Joe get real and understand before you make your ridiculous contribution! This isn't China

With respect to the connection between Labor and the Redfern Block. Wasn't it Whitlam that created the Redfern Block housing for indigines during the 1970's? He created similar accommodation in Canberra too and they were shelters for prostitution, drug dealing and had murders. They have since been bulldozed.

Whitlam did not create The Block, it was started as a concept before his tenure. However he did transfer ownership to the AHC in 72 when landlords were unjustly kicking out Aboriginal residents. The bigger question is why does everyone make such a fuss when a murder happens in the block ? Many, many more murders have happened in the South West of Sydney in recent years.. should that be bulldozed too ? What the hell is everyone's problem with the Koori community ?

First of all how does all off this have to do with what happen at Redfern? Second I know the person who was murdered last night and I am upset about this situation, how can you express comments about racism at a time like this a young man life has been lost who had a great outlook on life and had a great future ahead off him, this type off crime does not only happen within the Aboriginal Communities it happens in everyone communities. SO SHOW SOME REPECT AND KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELF

I am speaking on behalf of my family. I have just lost a little brother, who loved life and was a kind hearted person. This cowardly act was not an act of racism, nor an act of oppression. I am not making any excusses for the person that took away my brothers life but to advise commenters that we don't appreciate what you are saying about a young person that you do not know or have any idea about the fatal night. All I have to say is REST IN PEACE my baby brother, I'll see you at home! Luv Ya
