At Hurstville Public School, 50 per cent of the teaching staff are available, allowing parents to drop off their children, even if it is just for supervision.
Cheryl, who has two children at the school, has given Hurstville Public a gold star for the way it’s handled the situation today.
“There are teachers here and there is supervision,” she noted.
“So the school’s doing the right thing. Looking after their staff members and working families.”
But other parents can't see why the strike is necessary
"They're teachers, they get their holidays and they could do without it - especially when there's kids education involved," one father told LIVENEWS.com.au.
For many parents across New South Wales today has meant frantic phone calls to relatives or the prospect of losing a day at work to care for their kids.
Teachers are striking over what they see as a government threat to alter the transfer system, which allows principals to advertise for staff instead of having to take the next teacher on the list.
LIVENEWS.com.au will bring you video from the teachers' march at Governor Macquarie Tower around midday.
