Indiana Jones whips up $307 million at global box office

27/05/2008 9:19:00 AM.  |
The latest Indiana Jones film has more than recouped its big budget, with an estimated $307 million in global box office sales and the US Memorial Day long weekend.

Families went in droves to catch Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the fourth adventure starring Harrison Ford as the whip-cracking archeologist, 19 years after the last Indiana film.

Paramount Pictures estimated the action sequel made $158 million in the US and Canada from Thursday, and $149 million around the rest of the world.

The result marks the second biggest Memorial Day weekend opening ever, behind only Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, which made $159.66 million domestically last year.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull cost a reported $193 million to make.
