Members of Australia's arts community, including Oscar winning actress Cate Blanchett, have pledged their support for controversial photographer Bill Henson.
They say if charges are laid against him it will damage Australia's cultural reputation.
A Bill Henson exhibition featuring images of a naked girl and boy, believed to be aged 12 and 13, was closed down by police just before it was due to open at a Sydney gallery last Thursday.
More than 40 people who were part of the creative stream at the federal government's 2020 Summit, say they support Henson's work, and warn against censorship.
The signatories include writer Peter Goldsworthy and Triple J broadcaster Marieke Hardy.
Shadow Minister Malcolm Turnbull owns two Henson works and says while everyone's entitled to their opinion, he's disappointed with the entire saga.
“This is a big issue about artistic freedom. There is a great debate going on, I don’t want to make any other comment other than to say that I don’t believe that we should have policemen invading art galleries.”
