A NSW Supreme Court jury has found Mercedes Corby was defamed by the Seven Network in a series of interviews with her former best friend.
The sister of convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby is suing Channel 7 claiming it defamed her on the Today Tonight program.
Mercedes Corby says comments made by her former best friend Jodie Power falsely portrayed her as a drug smuggler and dealer.
The Network’s lawyers have urged the jury to believe the "brave" Ms Power, with Tom Hughs QC telling the court she’d been prepared to tell uncomfortable truths to bring evil to an end.
The jury retired for 6 hours before delivering the verdict to the court.
When Ms Corby left the court she thanked her legal team, saying she was happy with the result.
"I just want to say i'm really happy," she said.
"I've still got more to do but i'm really happy with the outcome and thanks to my great legal team."
An angry and shaken Jodie Power said at least she told the absolute truth.
"At least i can walk out of here and hold my head high and know i have told the absolute truth and i didn't have to invent any stories about myself."
