One has to kick off with the intruders about to be inserted into the house doesn’t one? They won’t be welcome. The HM’s will have started to get pretty territorial by now – they’ll have started to see the house as their home rather than just a TV set they were chucked into.
These intruders and those that may come after will be received about as well as a sand enema.
There’ll be two pretty things – Cherry the hot young surfer and Rhianna the yummy mummy. But far more interestingly there’ll also be Terrance a married 51-year-old, not so much for what he’ll bring but for what he’ll do to Terri.
You see Terri has twisted herself into a very comfortable little niche as the house Mum who’s sort of faded into the background. Suddenly she won’t be able to differentiate herself, or justify herself all the time by simply saying “I’m 52”. It will be fascinating.
Speaking of fascinating there are three HM’s that have really showed themselves over the last week… let’s start with Bianca.
Bianca really needs to take a chill pill. She just takes everything so seriously. Last weekend there was that ridiculous blow up with Dixie. Basicly Dixie had a whinge to BB about the washer-woman task because it was making her 8.6 kilos of breasts hurt. She came out and let off steam to Bianca saying that BB didn’t care. Bianca, herself heavy in the chest, said BB was an arsehole. But then BB called her in and said what Dixie had said was wrong. And like a wind up toy she rushed out and attacked Dixie “Don’t misquote Big Brother!”. I’m gunna tell you something for free Bianca – never side with BB over a HM – no-one will love you for it in or out of the house.
But this incident is just one of many involving Bianca over the last week. She tiffed with Brigette, she tiffed with Renee, once I think she even tiffed with herself by mistake. At one point the other HM’s were taking odds on who would be the first to start a fight over the dog – guess who most thought it would be? And what about that embarrassing nonsense at the family dinner where she asked a question simply to illicit more discussion of her little mini-fling with Rory.
She is proving one thing I’ve always said about BB – being young is an incredible disadvantage, or has been in the past anyway.
Anyway, whatever her age, Bianca needs to develop the capacity to rise above. Speaking of rising above, the next stand out HM this week has been Dixie.
She has her great moments I will admit. Like when she was talking to the dog accusing it of not giving her a chance. But there’s so much crying and fighting in between… it’s hard to really warm to her. I suspect she, like Bianca, needs to develop a routine to structure her days – with exercise, weights, chores etc. Imposing a structure on yourself in the BB house is really important.
Lying around all day, an affliction that tends to infect girls more than boys, leads to boredom, and eventually erratic behaviour that wins you no friends.
A perfect example of someone who clearly had the discipline to impose structure from day one is Alice. She’s a master game player – so much so that when she speaks ill of someone it comes as a real shock – like when we saw her swearing about Brigette a few weeks ago. We know she’s playing because she has this curious habit of holding her microphone to her mouth sometimes when she talks. And we saw her determination shine through with the Kennel task – she won that through solid grit – and then won herself a storyline in the form of being the primary carer of Ollie the dog. If she was a bit more inherently interesting and fun she might even take out the show – sadly I think her personality won’t give punters enough to warm to over time.
Oh, now I know I said there were three stand outs this week – but can I quickly mention Renee? Thanks. This week was the second time we’ve seen her go a bit skitzo – you know what I’m saying – that scary thing were she scrunches her brow and just launches into one of the other chicks in extreme anger. Together with her crow like voice it’s a pretty alarming combination.
It’s not like Dixie’s endearing whinging – it’s just ugly. Too much more of that and she’ll she knocked off her perch as favourite to take out the show.
Anyway, bottom line of Big Brother? The party is over… from now on in it’s hard yakka for our housemates. And for us the show really starts as well, as out emotional ties to this or that housemate get stronger and stronger.
