Hopes and Marsh bundled out of IPL

1/06/2008 10:34:00 AM.  |
Australian pair James Hopes and Shaun Marsh have had their Indian Premier League runs halted as the Kings XI Punjab suffered a nine wicket loss to the Chennai Super Kings in Saturday night's semi-final.

Sent in to bat first at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the Australian openers never hit full stride with Hopes (two runs off five balls) caught behind off the bowling of South African Makhaya Ntini.

Marsh faired much better, belting three boundaries and a six before an inside edge had his stumps skittled by Ntini for just 23 runs (17 balls).

The Punjab side failed to recover from the slow start and managed just 8-112 from their 20 overs, which the Super Kings easily chased down reaching 1-116 with 5.1 overs to spare.

Parthiv Patel (51no) and Suresh Raina (55no) ensured the run-chase was a canter with an unbeaten second wicket stand of 102.

The Chennai Super Kings will meet Shane Warne's Rajasthan Royals in Sunday's final.
