Authorities are worried Austria’s infamous dungeon monster, Josef Fritzl, will die in jail before he is able to reveal exactly what he did.
74-year-old Fritzl, held his daughter captive in a dungeon for 24 years, raping her countless times and fathering her seven children.
Fritzl is currently locked up in St Poelten jail, accused not only of rape, but also murder, imprisonment and incest.
Inmates at the prison have revealed that Fritzl has been given the nickname Satan, and is too frightened to leave his cell due to daily death threats.
"At night the other cons shout out 'We're going to get you Satan, come out and play', and they bang on the door when they walk past his cell," a former inmate told the Austrian Times.
It has also been reported that Fritzl has lost a lot of weight and is looking pale and ill.
Police have decided not to put a fixed time frame on the trial, with medics saying it may take up to two years before Fritzl’s daughter Elisabeth, 42, and her children will be well enough to give evidence.
Her 19-year-old daughter Kersten, has only just been brought out of a coma, which she has been in since being committed to hospital in April.
Two of the children, Stefan, 18, and Felix, five, had spent their whole lives in the dungeon and were only exposed to sunlight for the first time upon their rescue.
