Canberra police have tracked down three teenage girls seen bashing a woman on a video posted on the internet.
A member of the public alerted police to the mobile phone footage taken outside the Woden Plaza shopping centre in Canberra's south and uploaded to YouTube.
The victim can be seen arguing with her attackers before they begin hitting and kicking her while several people look on.
The footage ends with the woman being beaten to the ground just inside the shopping centre's doors.
Police decided to investigate the incident, even though no one reported it.
Police today said they had tracked down the girls, aged 13, 15, and 16, and the 36-year-old victim.
Police said the girls had admitted their involvement in the incident and investigators were now preparing a brief of evidence.
"It's then up to the ACT Director of Public Prosecutions to decide whether or not charges will go ahead," an ACT Policing spokesman said.
It is understood charges could also be laid against the 36-year-old.
It is not known who filmed the footage.
The footage, since removed from YouTube, was viewed more than 140,000 times.
