Sydney Swans coach Paul Roos says his star Adam Goodes should have copped a one-match suspension over his rough conduct charge, and has told Goodes to cut poor discipline out of his game.
Goodes will play this weekend after taking an early guilty plea after clashing with West Coast's Adam Selwood.
The tribunal awarded Goodes 93.75 carryover points, meaning any further infringement over the next year will result in a suspension.
But Roos thinks his star should be out for a week already.
"I've spoken to him about that," Roos told Fairfax. "It was an inappropriate action based on what we know about footy and a week's [suspension] would have been an appropriate penalty in my opinion.
"We were bracing to have him out for a week but, given the circumstances as they are with the tribunal, he'll play this week.
"I've spoken to him already and he knows it's unacceptable and he needs to modify the way he does those sort of things. He needs to bend down and go and pick up the ball, and if he had his time over again, that's what he'd do.
"I think we're a pretty disciplined side and we generally do things pretty well. Every now and then we have something we don't like as a club and ourselves, and obviously Adam was unhappy about it himself, and hopefully he doesn't do it again.
"He didn't go in to hurt anyone, and watching the replay he felt he could have gone after the ball, and that's what he should have done and that's what he needs to do in the future."
