Austria incest child wakes from seven week coma

A 19-year-old Austrian girl whose admission to hospital brought to light a major incest scandal has been reunited with her family.

Local authorities say Kerstin Frizl’s health is improving day by day, since waking from a seven week medically induced coma.

The teenager has been reunited with her family – who around two months ago were found hidden in a dungeon, held captive by Josef Fritzl.

25 years ago Josef Fritzl trapped his daughter in a dungeon in his home, raping her countless times and fathering seven children with her, one of those Kerstin.

When Kerstin was taken to hospital she was unconscious and suffering multiple organ failure, doctors had no choice but to place her in a coma.

Kerstin’s critical condition sparked investigations into a suspicious Josef Fritzl, which then led to the discovery of the rest of the family.

Doctors are certain Kerstin, the oldest of the seven Fritzl children, will make a full recovery.
