Forget alcopops, winopops are about to hit the shelves

17/06/2008 6:21:00 AM.  | Victoria Owens
Teenagers could soon be lured into buying pre-mixed wine drinks as a cheaper alternative to highly taxed alcopops.

Kevin Rudd may have won the war on alcopos, but the Prime Minister’s tax on the pre-mixed drinks has fueled the emergence of a stronger range of wine coolers.

A cheap and highly alcoholic line of wino-pops are set to hit the stores within weeks, targeting cash strapped teenagers looking to get drunk quickly.

The ready to drink wine coolers can contain as much as eight per cent alcohol and taste more like alcopos than wine.

The Rudd government is vowing to take a hardline approach on any alcohol manufacturers attempting to sneak around the new laws.
