Another Corby win against Channel Seven

18/06/2008 10:52:00 AM.  |
The Seven Network has reached a confidential out-of-court settlement in the defamation suit of Roseleigh Rose, the mother of convicted drug smuggler Schappelle Corby.

Ms Rose sued the network over an interview with the former best friend of her other daughter Mercedes, which was broadcast on the Today Tonight program on February 14 last year.

She claimed the interview with Jodie Power implied she'd sold, possessed and trafficked in marijuana, and caused Schapelle Corby to import the drug into Bali.

Ms Rose claimed the interview also implied she posed a threat to Ms Power's life and safety.

Mercedes Corby won a similar suit earlier this month, with a jury finding she had been defamed.

Seven settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.

The network's lawyers have told NSW Supreme Court Justice Lucy Mccallum they've now offered Ms Rose a similar settlement, and the matter won't proceed to hearing.

Ms Rose was not in court today.
