19/06/2008 9:54:00 AM.  |
Die-hard Apple fans have staked their places in the queue for today's opening of the computer giant's Sydney store.

Armed with sleeping bags, thermos flasks and laptops, most of those in line are Apple enthusiasts who have attended dozens of store openings worldwide.

Among them is Mike Kaufmann, a retired US airline pilot from California, who joked he lined up to make sure he gets one of the t-shirts Apple will hand out to the first 2,500 customers.

The George Street store opens its doors at 5pm (AEST) tday, and will be Apple's first Australian retail outlet.

Details about the opening are being kept a closely guarded secret, though rumours abound Apple CEO Steve Jobs will make an appearance.

Thousands are tipped to there by the time the store opens.
